ABOUT US

Freedom House Romania is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization that promotes freedom, democracy and human rights with a well-founded reputation as an advocate of fundamental human rights and democratic values, the rule of law and good governance.

Freedom House Romania initiated a series of projects dedicated to competition law in 2011. The first project, “EU Anti-Cartel and Anti-Monopoly Law: Training for Judges in Romania”, has trained over 100 magistrates. The training sessions carried on with the second project “Economy, Legislation and Competition – Interdisciplinary Training for Romanian Magistrates”, attended by magistrates from various courts.

In 2016, in the project “Improving the Application of Competition Law in Romania: Specialized Conferences for European Judges”, implemented by a consortium consisting of Freedom House Romania, the Romanian Competition Council and the National Institute of Magistracy, over 170 magistrates, lawyers, prosecutors and academics attended the conferences.

The fourth project, “Specialized Training for European Practitioners”, trained 124 judges from three different countries on Directive 104/2014 on certain rules governing actions for damages under national law for breaches of provisions of the relevant legislation competition between the Member States and the European Union.

“Supporting transnational cooperation and training in competition law” is the fifth project on competition law, having as outcomes the present website and the organization of the international conference on June 20-21, 2019, as an exchange of experience between Romanian and foreign judges, and focusing on state aid, but not limited to this.
