The representatives of the Competition Council – who were present in Paris at the showcasing of projects belonging to the OECD Competition Committee – had a series of interventions and discussions on how the Authority ensures competitive neutrality at the level of the markets by applying the national and Community legal framework control of State aid; competition and digital disturbances on financial markets (FinTech), vertical economic concentrations in the technology, media and telecom sectors, and recent developments in law enforcement and competition policy in Romania.
The delegation headed by the President of the Competition Council, Mr. Bogdan Chiriţoiu, took part in the activities of the OECD Competition Committee, taking into consideration the status of associate of the Committee, Romania being the first OECD non-member state to benefit from this status.
We remind that the Competition Authority has taken over from the OECD practice a series of tools for identifying anti-competitive practices, such as the quick detection guideline for rigged auctions. Also, following the Competition Council’s OECD-supported project to analyze the impact of existing legislation in key sectors of the Romanian economy, 152 recommendations for improving the regulatory framework have been developed in three areas: agri-food processing, freight transport (terrestrial and naval) and construction (mainly building materials and designing relevant auctions for civil works).
The OECD is an intergovernmental forum with the objective of identifying, disseminating and evaluating the implementation of optimal public policies to ensure sustainable economic growth, prosperity and development among Member States as well as on a global level.
